VIDEO Hypnotism For Crime: The Hypnotist Thief

Back in 2008 Italian police were searching for a 'Hypnotist Thief' who successfully stole money on several occasions using only hypnosis as his tool for crime. Presumably using a rapid induction technique (what is this?) he managed to persuade cashiers to hand over a substantial amount of money from the till before calmly walking out of the store, leaving the cashier with no recollection of the money being taken.

Perhaps I need to rethink my career options...

5 Common Reasons Why Patients Seek Out Hypnosis

5. Curiosity
There are a lot of people who are skeptical of hypnosis and what it can do for them. The reasons for this is that there’s a light that surrounds hypnosis and that light has been placed there by Hollywood.

There’s a lot of “illusion” and “camp” that surround hypnosis, but what many don’t know is that hypnotherapy is based in and around science and biology. I blog about that a little more in-depth (see below).

4. Rejection
Yes. There are those who seek out the craft of hypnosis because of being rejected socially. Being outcasted or even being dumped by a significant other can drive people to hypnosis. It’s a valid solution. Hypnosis can aid patients with their self-image and self-confidence, changing the way they perceive themselves and, not uncommonly, the world around them.

They tend to harbor negative beliefs about themselves afterward and hypnosis works to alter this mentality. This technique is also used to when it comes to tackling anxiety. Hypnotherapy can eliminate the patient’s habit to catastrophize, which is the heart of this issue.

3. Insomnia
The common mentality of many, across the globe, is go-go-go. We are always on the go and that may be attributed to the reasons why we can never fall asleep at night. However, there are other reasons that may be behind this phenomenon—so first, before you go any further thinking hypnosis will be your solution, talk to your primary care physician.

There are many things to consider about insomnia and how hypnotherapy can help you beat it, but the prime solution will likely be calming the rapid-fire thoughts shooting around inside our heads. That is where hypnosis comes in.

2. Smoking Cessation
I explain the ins and outs of what it takes to quit smoking HERE. This is an incredibly common reason for patients to seek me out. The problem is not using hypnosis to help them. The problem is helping the patient understand that this will not be a “quick solution” to the issue at hand.
Is it possible to kick the habit with hypnosis?
Yes.
Will it be a 1-day turn around where cravings no longer exist?
No, unfortunately not.
But if you’re dedicated to quitting smoking, hypnosis can help you.

1. Weight Management
The most compelling reason that patients seek me out is due to weight management. They’re valid in this. Hypnosis can and has helped patients manage their weight. Hypnosis can change your ideas about food, eating, over-eating (with the holidays looming) and understanding what it means to be full.

If this is something you’re interested in, contact me. And we’ll get you started on the right path today. But remember: clarify what it is you’re aiming for first. If you’re not sure, allow me to help you do so. That’s one of the first steps to a successful hypnotherapy session, which we’ll touch more on in upcoming blog posts.

10 Unusual Hypnotherapy Stories

Chicken Nuggets
After 18 years of eating nothing but chicken nuggets and chips, a student was last year weaned off her unhealthy diet by a hypnotherapist and started to eat vegetables and pasta. Since she was two-years-old Carla Laban was violently sick after every meal unless it was chicken nuggets, but now she is starting to enjoy other foods.
IBS
Hypnotherapy may be able to cure irritable bowel syndrome after trials showed it has a 70 per cent success rate. Doctors claim the mind relaxing technique combats the condition, which causes constipation, diarrhoea, cramps and nausea. The treatment is so successful that there is an 18-month waiting list of people lining up to try the therapy at Manchester's Wythenshawe Hospital.
Sex
According to Australian psychologist Dr Janet Hall hypnosis can help cure women of sex phobias such as the fear of sperm and vaginismus, a fear of intercourse. "I've found that with hypnosis you can get them to rehearse the sex act in the safety of their own imagination," Dr Hall told a conference in Sydney.
Dentistry
Last year a man who could not afford a dentist's bill had two rotten teeth and roots removed without an anaesthetic, thanks to hypnosis. Leslie Mahon from Colchester said: "It was incredible. There is no worse pain than that inflicted by dentists but I didn't feel any.”
Fruit
A woman who was so sacred of fruit that she couldn't bear to have a fruit bowl in the house was cured of the bizarre phobia through a session of hypnotherapy. “I'm now able to peel an apple and a banana for my children and I feel really proud that I actually have a fruit bowl in the house," she said after the treatment. "I used to worry about passing my phobia on, but luckily it has had the opposite effect - the kids adore fruit.”
Twitter
Using Twitter to get rid of writer’s block is a technique being used by Berkshire-based hypnotherapist Tom Evans. In just 13 minutes, Tom claims he can show you how you can use the 140 characters of Twitter and a blog to structure and write a whole book.
Maggots
After answering an advert appealing for phobics to come forward for a TV programme, a woman from Essex had her irrational fear of maggots cured. Before the therapy she made her fisherman husband strip off and shower outside after fishing trips and feared that maggots were targeting her house. "My phobia was really affecting my life,” she said. “Every day I would worry that I would hear the word or see one. I've even got a jar of Robert's maggots in my fridge now."
Learning to drive
Back in 2006 a Norfolk driving school become the first in the country to offer hypnotherapy to help nervous learners pass their tests. Kimberley Mercer, the driving school’s hypnotherapist, said: “It is the little voice inside them I speak to and I turn around those negative thoughts.”
Smoking and Scampi Fries
30-a-day smoker Darren Corbett had his cigarette cravings cured by a hypnotist at his local pub, but ended up with an addiction to seafood-flavoured snack Scampi Fries instead. He now spends £11 a day on them, almost twice as much as he used to spend on ciggies. “When my mates go outside for a smoke, I sit inside and munch,” said Corbett.
Hiccups
Hypnotherapy may be able to solve all of the problems above, but it can’t cure everything. A musician who hiccupped more than 10million times over two years tried hypnosis among other wacky treatments to solve the problem but to no avail. “I am still on the journey to find a cure for my hiccups,” said Mr Sands after having keyhole surgery on a damaged stomach valve in a further attempt to cure the hiccupping.

Top players on Wall street, Silicon Valley, top millionaires and players have all used Hypnosis to succeed.

Finally I thought this story was super compelling:

Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). Used hypnosis to overcome a deep crash after his first Symphony completely failed. Criticised heavily, he struggled to compose, and finally stopped trying altogether. He sank into a deep depression which lasted for three years.
“Something within me snapped,” he said. “All my self-confidence broke down…. A paralyzing apathy possessed me. I did nothing at all and found no pleasure in anything. Half my days were spent on a couch sighing over my ruined life. My only occupation consisted in giving a few piano lessons in order to keep myself alive.”
Finally, Rachmaninoff went to see Dr. Nicolai Dahl, who happened to be a pioneer in the field of hypnosis.
“My relatives had informed Dr. Dahl that he must by all means cure me of my apathetic condition and bring about such results that I would again be able to compose.
“Dr. Dahl had inquired what kind of composition was required of me, and he was informed, ‘a concerto for pianoforte,’ for I had promised this to people in London and had given up in despair the idea of writing it.
“In consequence, I heard repeated day after day the same hypnotic formula, as I lay half asleep in an armchair in Dr. Dahl’s study: ‘You will start to compose a concerto – You will work with the greatest of ease – The composition will be of excellent quality.’ It was always the same, without interruption.
“Although it may sound impossible to believe, this treatment really helped me. I began to compose at the beginning of the summer. The material grew in volume, and new musical ideas began to well up within me, many more than I needed for my concerto….
“I felt that Dr. Dahl’s treatment had strengthened my nervous system to a degree almost miraculous. Out of gratitude I dedicated my Second Concerto to him.”
Over 100 years ago Rachmaninoff composed his Second Piano Concerto, one of the most beautiful, moving pieces of music ever written. THANKS TO HYPNOSIS!

Treating Phobias With Hypnosis: The Rewind Technique

Phobias (explained here) are fairly common. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that approximately 8-18% of the American population suffers from a phobia. They are the most common form of an anxiety disorder. Among women of all ages, phobias are the most common form of mental disorder and among men older than 25, phobias are the second most common form of mental disorder. Hypnosis is an effective form of treatment of phobias (Kessler et al., 2005). Recently, a new technique, called the Rewind Technique, has been found to be highly effective in helping people get rid of their fears.

A phobia is an irrational fear that poses little or no danger to the person suffering from the fear. Types of fear include fear of heights, small spaces, driving, flying, and different kinds of animals. To calm their fears, most people try to avoid what they are afraid of. If they face their fear, common symptoms of the phobia include: panic, anxiety, rapid heart rate, and shortness of breath (Medline Plus).

Being afraid is a survival mechanism that was a very important part of survival in ancient times. It is instilled in all humans and now phobias are directed in an irrational way. The goal of hypnotherapy is to remove the subconscious pattern of the phobia. A common technique used with hypnotherapy is called the Rewind Technique. This technique is similar to a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) technique.

This technique has proven highly effective no matter how long the person has suffered from the phobia. Also, whether the phobia or the symptoms of the phobia are severe or not, the Rewind Technique works quickly and efficiently, often within one session.

The Rewind Technique is used after a hypnotherapist induces the state of hypnosis on the phobia sufferer. Then, the hypnotherapist guides the patient through images and steps that act to "rewind" the phobia. The hypnotherapist does not need to know how the phobia first started and does not need to know any of the symptoms the patient is suffering from. All the hypnotherapist must know is how to guide patients through the Rewind Technique to help them overcome their fear (Sherred).

There are many benefits of using hypnosis and the Rewind Technique on people who suffer from phobias. It is a fast and effective method for helping a person overcome his/her phobia. It improves quality of life and can reduce use of prescription medication that is often used to treat the symptoms of the phobia. This technique can also be used with people who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.

Why Celebrities Use Hypnosis

Now and again you see articles about celebrities going for hypnotherapy. And for many people this may come as a surprise. Hypnotherapy has been recognized as a totally natural thing, just as any other natural healing such as meditation, reiki or yoga. Due to the significant and permanent advantages of hypnotherapy, it has already gained huge popularity amongst celebrities as well.

Those celebrities visit their hypnotherapists for a variety of reasons. Either it can be to earn a sporting edge, give up smoking, overcome a phobia or to lose weight etc. Hypnotherapy is now more popular among the celebrities than any time before. Whether they are athletes, movie stars, TV actors, musicians etc, celebrities from all fields have been known to choose hypnosis.

It surely gives a boost to the hypnotherapy business when celebrities disclose the positive results they received from it. Take the example of English recording artist Lily Allen, who has dropped her size from 12 to 8 with the help of hypnotherapy. Tiger Woods is one of the best golf players of all time, and he also received hypnotherapy treatments. Actually he credits his strong mental health to the years of hypnosis he got since he was a child. Steve Collins, another sports star has successfully used hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy has become a big part of many athletes because it can give them motivation, or make them immune to distractions, or to step up their mental strength. (More on hypnosis for professional sports)

Mel Gibson underwent hypnosis to help him deal with his problems, while Kevin Costner hired a private therapist to treat his phobia. Smoking is a big problem among celebrities, and because of all the stresses and controversies it becomes very difficult to beat the addiction. But a lot of celebrities have successfully been treated with hypnotherapy to get over it, Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Joel, Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore to name a few.

TV actress Tina Malone lost 6 stone in weight using only hypnotherapy. It helped her to alter her eating habits and allowed her to lose the weight. A good hypnotherapist will identify the root cause of the problem then assists to treat in accordance, like Lily Allen who dropped her size mostly by going to gym and not just altering her eating habits.

Richard Lee, the goalie of Brentford Football Club has also benefitted from hypnosis. Charlotte Church, a Welsh singer also quit smoking when she was pregnant with her children. You will discover so many celebrities who have tried hypnotherapy that it would certainly be much easier to list those celebrities who have not advantaged from it!

It shouldn't come to us as a shock that so many celebrities currently use hypnotherapy. It's surely not a new trend. People such as Mozart, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison etc. all have been known to use hypnotherapy to resolve their problems. Despite the fact that it can be sometimes relatively expensive to hire a good hypnotherapist, it surely does not mean that only celebrities can afford it. It's actually an affordable therapy (especially given its speed, effect and the money it would save in the long run if you no longer smoke/eat/consume drugs etc any longer). The benefits of hypnosis are almost limitless and the effort is minimal, this is what has made hypnosis really popular both among celebrities and the rest of us.
