Actress Oliva Munn Discovered Hypnosis

Another 'Celebrity used hypnosis to get in shape' headline that caught my eye. Maybe it really does help...

OLIVIA MUNN HAS BEEN VERY OPEN ABOUT GOING TO A HYPNOTIST FOR OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD) ISSUES. THE ACTRESS RECENTLY REVEALED THAT THE HYPNOTHERAPY SESSIONS LED HER TO FIND A WAY TO GET INTO SHAPE TO GET INTO THE SUPERHEROINE PSYLOCKE’S OUTFIT IN THE UPCOMING “X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.”

When Munn was 26 years old, she developed trichotillomania, an OCD disorder that affects about 1-3 % of the U.S. population. Trichotillomania is commonly known as compulsive hair-pulling. The condition gave Munn a compulsion to yank at her eyelashes.

In November 2014, Munn told Self magazine she sought out a therapist who specialized in hypnosis treatments.

Trichotillomania and OCD are clinically different disorders but often share symptoms.

“OCD comes from a place of needing to feel safe,” Munn told Self. “I had it growing up, having had a little bit of a tumultuous upbringing, moving around a lot with a mixed family with five kids.”

Munn was interviewed for the August issue of Good Housekeeping. The 35-year-old actress spoke openly about seeing a hypnotist to help her deal with OCD issues.

“With my anxiety, if I’m not in the mood to go out to dinner, I can’t. I almost feel paralyzed,” Olivia Munn told the magazine.

At one point her condition got so bad, the only comfort she could find was with her dog.

“I was having a tough time earlier this year; one day I broke down on the floor, crying,” Olivia revealed. “Chance came up and snuggled with me. He’s so smart, so kind … he’s got my heart.”

Munn said a traumatic travel scare further changed her for life.

“About four years ago, I was almost in a plane crash,” Munn said. “Everybody on the plane thought we were going to die … even the flight attendants were crying and screaming. It made me question everything.”

Olivia Munn first turned to the spirit medium Theresa Caputo, who she met on a talk show.

While dealing with mental health issues, Munn’s hypnotherapist also inspired her to work on her physical health.

“[My hypnotist] said, ‘You have to [work out]! It’s good for your anxiety and depression,” Munn told Good Housekeeping. “So during one of our sessions, he hypnotized me. I’m not exaggerating: That was on a Friday, and by Monday I was working out every day at 6 a.m. … Now I feel so much stronger.”

'Skully' Gillian Anderson used Hypnotherapy

Gillian Anderson had hypnotherapy before returning to the stage this year.

The 46-year-old actress has won rave reviews for her performance in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' at London's Young Vic theater but had to seek specialist help before her run started after suffering panic attacks brought on by a fear of forgetting her lines.

She said: "I was terrified because I've had panic attacks on stage before so deciding to do this was a lot of pressure.

"I went to a couple of different hypnotists to deal with the anxiety because about six months before I started I was already projecting the fear of the future onto really small moments and struggling to even give a thank you speech.

"I think the combination of hypnotherapy and working my a*s off so that I was comfortable with the material meant that it hasn't been an issue."

Gillian - who has children Piper, 20, Oscar, eight, and Felix, six, from previous relationships - has previously suffered from panic attacks so bad that she "hallucinated".

She recalled in an interview with Stylist magazine: "There was a period of time when I was pregnant with my daughter where I started having panic attacks and they pretty much happened every day for well over a year.

"And it was absolute hell - like hallucinatory - really bad."

Famous People Who Have Used Hypnotherapy

Many actors have used hypnosis to improve their lives. It helps them remember who they really are and detaches themselves from the roles they play. Great actors will physically and emotionally become the characters they are playing. They have bypassed that logical, conscious part of their mind and truly believe they have become that character. They are, in fact, in an altered state of consciousness - a hypnotic state.
Because the mind can't tell what is imagined and what is real, the lines of the actor's true identity and that of his character can become blurred. This can become a problem especially if the character played has a dark or negative side.
Hypnosis is very popular in Hollywood to help actors detach themselves from past roles. And also to help actors get into that "Hypnotic Acting State" often resulting in Oscar Winning performances.
And famous celebrities are, after all, still normal, natural people who have normal, natural problems. just like you and me. And they have used hypnosis to overcome these problems (and if they have, so can you!). For example:
Matt Damon used hypnosis to quit smoking. Interviewed by Jay Leno, he said, "Using hypnosis was one of the greatest decisions of my life!"
Other celebrities to quit smoking through hypnosis are:
Barry Moore, Billy Joel, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, Ellen Degeneres, Ashton Kutscher, Charlize Theron and Ben Affleck
Celebrities who have used hypnosis to lose weight are:
Lily Allen, Sophie Dahl, Geri Halliwell and Chuck Clausen
Sarah Ferguson (Fergie) used hypnosis to stop biting her fingernails and for weight loss.
Orlando Bloom's mother called in a hypnotist to deal with Orlando's addiction to chocolate when he was a child.
Sylvester Stallone used self hypnosis to help him write the script for "Rocky". He then used hypnosis daily to overcome over 900 rejections for his script. During each day of filming "Rocky" he used hypnosis tapes. "Rocky" became an overnight success.
Kevin Kostner flew his personal hypnotist to Hawaii to cure him of sea sickness while filming "Water World".
Hollywood actor Aaron Eckhart credits hypnosis for changing his life forever after being able to give up smoking and alcohol.
Tony Curtis used hypnosis to overcome his fear of flying and to improve his career.
James Earl Jones famous actor and voice of Darth Vader (Star Wars) and Mufasa (Lion King) used hypnosis to overcome stuttering.
Bruce Willis used hypnosis to overcome stuttering.
Other famous actors/ celebrities who have used hypnosis to improve their lives are:
Samuel L Jackson, Sean Penn, Sean Connery, Martha Stewart, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin
Princess Diana used hypnosis for public speaking and confidence.
Jackie Kennedy Onassis used hypnotherapy to let go of past tragic events, including her husband's assassination.
Albert Einstein was known to have hypnosis sessions every afternoon. His theory of relativity came to him in one of those sessions. He often used trance states to develop his ideas.
Sir Winston Churchill used post-hypnotic suggestions in order to stay awake all night and avoid tiredness during World War II.
Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud developed psychotherapy as a result of learning about and practicing hypnosis.
Mozart composed the famous opera "Cosi Fan Tutte" while hypnotized.
Lord Tennyson Alfred wrote complete poems in a hypnotic state.
Seigei Rachmaninoff composed his "Second Piano Concerto" following a post-hypnotic suggestion given by Nikolai Dahl, a pioneer in hypnosis. Today, after over 100 years, this concerto still remains one of the most exquisite and deeply moving pieces of music ever written.
Tiger Woods has his mental coach hypnotize him to block out distractions and to focus on the golf course.
Steve Hooker won the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal in pole vaulting after his hypnotist helped him visualize his success.
Jimmy Connors is said to have used hypnosis to practice his winning tennis strokes prior to the US Open.
Kevin McBride, the celebrated Irish heavyweight boxing champion, prior to every fight, gets his personal hypnotist to hypnotize him into the right frame of mind.
Jack Niklaus, champion golfer, credits hypnosis and visualization techniques as the sole reason for his improved concentration.
Other sporting celebrities to have used hypnosis are:
Shaquille O'Neal (basketball) and Pat Cash (tennis)
The good news is .. it doesn't matter if you are famous or not so famous. Hypnosis has helped others and it can help you! The good news is you don't have to be a celebrity to be helped with hypnosis, whatever your problem is! The good news is... hypnosis can and will make a difference!

Top players on Wall street, Silicon Valley, top millionaires and players have all used Hypnosis to succeed.

Finally I thought this story was super compelling:

Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). Used hypnosis to overcome a deep crash after his first Symphony completely failed. Criticised heavily, he struggled to compose, and finally stopped trying altogether. He sank into a deep depression which lasted for three years.
“Something within me snapped,” he said. “All my self-confidence broke down…. A paralyzing apathy possessed me. I did nothing at all and found no pleasure in anything. Half my days were spent on a couch sighing over my ruined life. My only occupation consisted in giving a few piano lessons in order to keep myself alive.”
Finally, Rachmaninoff went to see Dr. Nicolai Dahl, who happened to be a pioneer in the field of hypnosis.
“My relatives had informed Dr. Dahl that he must by all means cure me of my apathetic condition and bring about such results that I would again be able to compose.
“Dr. Dahl had inquired what kind of composition was required of me, and he was informed, ‘a concerto for pianoforte,’ for I had promised this to people in London and had given up in despair the idea of writing it.
“In consequence, I heard repeated day after day the same hypnotic formula, as I lay half asleep in an armchair in Dr. Dahl’s study: ‘You will start to compose a concerto – You will work with the greatest of ease – The composition will be of excellent quality.’ It was always the same, without interruption.
“Although it may sound impossible to believe, this treatment really helped me. I began to compose at the beginning of the summer. The material grew in volume, and new musical ideas began to well up within me, many more than I needed for my concerto….
“I felt that Dr. Dahl’s treatment had strengthened my nervous system to a degree almost miraculous. Out of gratitude I dedicated my Second Concerto to him.”
Over 100 years ago Rachmaninoff composed his Second Piano Concerto, one of the most beautiful, moving pieces of music ever written. THANKS TO HYPNOSIS!

Why Celebrities Use Hypnosis

Now and again you see articles about celebrities going for hypnotherapy. And for many people this may come as a surprise. Hypnotherapy has been recognized as a totally natural thing, just as any other natural healing such as meditation, reiki or yoga. Due to the significant and permanent advantages of hypnotherapy, it has already gained huge popularity amongst celebrities as well.

Those celebrities visit their hypnotherapists for a variety of reasons. Either it can be to earn a sporting edge, give up smoking, overcome a phobia or to lose weight etc. Hypnotherapy is now more popular among the celebrities than any time before. Whether they are athletes, movie stars, TV actors, musicians etc, celebrities from all fields have been known to choose hypnosis.

It surely gives a boost to the hypnotherapy business when celebrities disclose the positive results they received from it. Take the example of English recording artist Lily Allen, who has dropped her size from 12 to 8 with the help of hypnotherapy. Tiger Woods is one of the best golf players of all time, and he also received hypnotherapy treatments. Actually he credits his strong mental health to the years of hypnosis he got since he was a child. Steve Collins, another sports star has successfully used hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy has become a big part of many athletes because it can give them motivation, or make them immune to distractions, or to step up their mental strength. (More on hypnosis for professional sports)

Mel Gibson underwent hypnosis to help him deal with his problems, while Kevin Costner hired a private therapist to treat his phobia. Smoking is a big problem among celebrities, and because of all the stresses and controversies it becomes very difficult to beat the addiction. But a lot of celebrities have successfully been treated with hypnotherapy to get over it, Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Joel, Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore to name a few.

TV actress Tina Malone lost 6 stone in weight using only hypnotherapy. It helped her to alter her eating habits and allowed her to lose the weight. A good hypnotherapist will identify the root cause of the problem then assists to treat in accordance, like Lily Allen who dropped her size mostly by going to gym and not just altering her eating habits.

Richard Lee, the goalie of Brentford Football Club has also benefitted from hypnosis. Charlotte Church, a Welsh singer also quit smoking when she was pregnant with her children. You will discover so many celebrities who have tried hypnotherapy that it would certainly be much easier to list those celebrities who have not advantaged from it!

It shouldn't come to us as a shock that so many celebrities currently use hypnotherapy. It's surely not a new trend. People such as Mozart, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison etc. all have been known to use hypnotherapy to resolve their problems. Despite the fact that it can be sometimes relatively expensive to hire a good hypnotherapist, it surely does not mean that only celebrities can afford it. It's actually an affordable therapy (especially given its speed, effect and the money it would save in the long run if you no longer smoke/eat/consume drugs etc any longer). The benefits of hypnosis are almost limitless and the effort is minimal, this is what has made hypnosis really popular both among celebrities and the rest of us.
